The Debate: Grinch or Elf

December 17, 2019

Christmas is the Worst

Why are people so happy during Christmas time? It smells like hot chocolate and, of course, the sickening smell of cinnamon. Lights on the store fronts are absolutely blinding. The Christmas tree at Marketplatz was put up the day after Thanksgiving, which is unbelievable. Why can’t people just wait until December?

People sing annoying songs about Christmas, Santa, and some guy named Rudolph. (I have no idea who he is.) There are three weeks at Christmas break, and people are still leaving early for holiday vacations. It appears that Christmas is only about the presents. Where’s the originality? Where’s the pizazz?

All I ever hear is “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy Holidays!” It’s infuriating. Christmas is the loneliest holiday ever if you have no one to spend it with, so I refuse to be happy. The holiday season is the worst.

All I ever do on Christmas day is eat bad food because I’m bored. I never have anyone to spend it with or give presents to. Christmas is for people who have their lives together. What about me? I don’t have my life together. My feelings about Christmas can only be put into words by the wise Grinch, “Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, double hate, loathe entirely.”

Christmas is the Best

Christmas is my favorite time of year! The air is crisp and cold. There is a smell of hot chocolate and cinnamon. Christmas lights edge the shops on Main Street producing a warm glow that spreads throughout the town. The Christmas tree stands tall at Marketplatz. People are filled with joy and laughter. The world is at peace.

Christmas is a season of hope and cheer. Songs to sing about Christmas, Santa, and of course Rudolph, (how could anyone forget him)?  Those three weeks off are the best plus getting out of school early, which I am totally doing. I just love getting up early and opening presents Christmas morning. Why would anyone hate Christmas?

The sound of “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy Holidays!” is spread throughout the town. Christmas is a season where people come together laughing and smiling reminiscing on the past, (I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite). The holiday season is the best.

On Christmas day, we eat our favorite foods like candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup and rejoice for the time we get together. Seeing my family excited to give each other gifts reminds of the joy of the Christmas season. My feelings about Christmas can only be put into the words by the wise Buddy the Elf, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
