The boys’ varsity finished up hot in non-district play, winning their last couple games at home versus Devine and Poteet. The Billies struggled to maintain a big lead against Devine, allowing it to stay a close game to the very end. Through it all, the Billies were able to come up big when it mattered and won 65-58.

JT Watson lead all scorers with 26 points, and Hayden Ahrens quickly followed with 20. Ethan Williams paired together six points, and Gus Martin and Darien Robles with 5 and 3.

“This was a very good win against a playoff team,” Kaman said. “This was a good test for us. we need to handle situations better near the end of games. We ended the regular season 17-7.”

The Billies also defeated Poteet on Jan. 1, in a game that wasn’t close from the start. The Billies won 98-35.

Watson led the team in scoring with 16, followed by Ahrens’ 13, then Jack Gallagher and Matt Kaman scored 12 each. Robles and Joel Jenschke both managed to score eight each. Colby Brasher followed with six, then Martin with five, and Joshua Wienecke with two.

“It was a good game. We hit a season high 15 threes,” Kaman said. “We were missing some kids who were on mission trips, which I am very proud of them for doing that. We had a very balanced scoring attack tonight.”
