The Billie powerlifting team took on multiple schools in Lago Vista, on Feb. 14. In the girls’ division, Elizabeth Sebera placed second in her weight class, garnering five points.

“Powerlifting is so much fun, feeling the adrenaline rush when I lift any weight and knowing I’m stronger than half of the boys in my grade,” Sebera said. “I enjoy doing it for myself, not for other people. I’m so close to getting to state, and I’m very excited for that.”

In the boys’ division, Joshua Handley placed first and Dylan Ahrens placed fourth respectively in the 181 pound weight class. Tucker Klein placed second in the 123 pound weight class.

“My workouts haven’t changed, but I have gotten stronger to compete in the next weight class,” Handley said. “From the success I have had in powerlifting, it has helped me with other sports.”

Possible regional qualifiers include, Sebera who is fourth in the region and Ellie Lindsay who is 13 in the region and is an alternate. Handley and Klein are also possible qualifiers for regionals.
