The Billies Start The Season Off With A Win

The Billies kicked off their 2020 football season, traveling to San Angelo for a neutral site game versus Monahans Loboes. The Billies dominated this game start to finish, outscoring the Loboes 35-13, winning the game 55-20.

Gavin French started off the game on a high note, rushing the ball into the end zone to score the first points of the season for the Billies. The rest of the quarter represented much of the same, as the first quarter ended with a 20-7 Battlin’ Billie lead.

Monahans came ready to play in the second, recovering a fumble and taking it back for a touchdown to make the score 20-13. The Billies bounced back, as French took the handoff and took it 24 yards for a touchdown. Javier Rodriguez converted the 2-pt conversion. On the next drive, Judson Beard ran the ball in from 25 yards out for a touchdown, ending the half on a high note with the score 35-13.

The Billies kicked off the second half with Beard rushing for an eight yard touchdown. The Billies would once again march down the field on the next possession, setting up quarterback Cole Immel for a one yard touchdown. This made the score 49-13 to end the third quarter.

Austin Simpson would score the only touchdown in the final quarter for the Billies, punching the ball in from 10 yards out. Monahans managed to get some more points on the board before the game ended, scoring one final touchdown with seven minutes remaining.

The Billies play their next game on Friday, September 11, at home against the Gonzales Apaches. The Billies look to improve to 3-0 on the season, keeping the win streak alive.
