Jazz band builds musicianship and exposes students to a higher variety of music than in concert band. It gives students a chance to apply music theory and enhance skills learned in concert band. Jazz band participates in contests and learns from experienced jazz musicians. They have the opportunity to ask these musicians for advice or how they came to be a part of this fascinating world. They even have their own Jazz festival here at Fredericksburg High School. This gives students an opportunity to learn even more from a unique selection of people within this captivation genre of music.
